What is MashCulture? What makes us different from any other brand/collection of t-shirts that are seen on the internet? Here's the story.
Let's start by talking about self expression. We understand self-expression to be an expression of one’s personality, emotions, or ideas, especially through art, music, or acting. But is it possible to express ourselves through clothes? Can people use fashion to express themselves?
Like a tattoo, slogan apparel has become the weapon of choice in order to make a statement without saying a word. Fashion is all about making a statement. Whether that statement is bold or humble, the message is what makes the trend. Slogans are not simply something people wear. It aligns them with a cause or something they hold very close to them. These slogans allow people to pause and think about issues/ideas that they would have not considered earlier. This is the thought that we want to capture and use for change.
Let me share my personal experience with you. As a male, in his mid 20’s, wearing these t-shirt did make some heads turn. While most of the people I encountered did not say much, I had some very interesting conversations with the ones who did, expanding my knowledge about issues that I so deeply cared about. Every time we repeatedly expose ourselves to an object, it automatically gets registered in our brain. This is the principle of repetition. Repetition creates a pattern which naturally grabs our attention at first, and then creates that comfort of familiarity. So why not use this in the right way to get the society to think/talk about issues that make us uncomfortable.
We cringe every time we see t-shirts with the words “Princess” emblazoned across them. How about the ones that say “Cool story babe, now go make me a sandwich?”. Although there are tons of uninspiring slogans scrawled across clothes, there are some brands that are getting it right and we want to be a part of those. Every month we plan to release merchandise around a certain theme across various categories from societal issues to pop-culture. Our core philosophy in life and business has always been the same: to have fun, to be able to express and encourage other people to be true to themselves. This is what we hope one day MashCulture becomes.
We at inkMASH know that change occurs in small steps, and that is what we aim to do. We want this to create a revolution of people who are not afraid to be different, to be passionate, those people that are willing to work hard and make a difference in this world rather than just complain about it. Be Bold, Be Fashionable, Be MashCulture.
